Well friends, we made it to Florence!! Florence is beautiful, and we got to see quite a bit of it today!
We woke up and headed out to some main sights. After heading the wrong way for awhile, we finally made out way to some major sights!
Legal sculpture
A sculpture on the Ponte Vecchio bridge.
An amazing sight from the Ponte Vecchio Bridge
Dad in the sun by the Bridge
Ultimate tourist right here: Western Europe book in hand, ready to learn! :)
The Ponte Vecchio Bridge. During WWII, parts of the city were destroyed by bombing, including all of the bridges in Florence excluding this one: The Pone Vecchio Bridge. It is the 3rd oldest bridge in the world, originating something during the 14th century.
Just a tad excited about the bridge :)
A memorabilia for Leonardo Da Vinci.
This was in the Piazza Del Duomo. This whole entire square was full of statues and sculptures, it was beautiful!
The copy of Michelangelo's "David" The original is now protected in the Galleria de Accademia, but this copy remains outside.
This was inside the Uffizi Gallery
Dad in front of a great lion, in the Piazza
Another shot in the Piazza. You can see the cathedral in the distance
Fountain in the Piazza
This is a typical street in Florence. In Rome and Florence both, the amount of scooters and bikes is incredible! Then, all of their cars are very small, and the people walk all over.
This is part of the Piazza Del Duomo area. To the right is part of the Duomo, one of the world's largest cathedrals. It is officially known as the Cattredrale di Santa Maria del Fiore. Work began in 1294 and was finished in 1436. To the left, the very tall building, is the campanile. It takes 414 steps to the top, and was completed in 1334.
The actual Duomo part of the cathedral
Took this while waiting in line for the Galleria Dell Accademia. Pretty birds and shutters :)
After an hour of waiting in line for the Galleria Dell Accademia. It started pouring down rain, but it was well worth it
Dad's illegal shot of "David." Very magnificent
Tomorrow we take off for Pisa in the afternoon. We are only in Pisa for one day, then heading straight for Paris!!! We will keep you updated :)
