Day 3- Soaking up the last of Rome

Today was a big day of history; we woke up and headed straight to the Colosseum!

The Colosseum, originally called the Flavian Amphitheatre, was constructed around 70AD. It is the size of two football fields, and can hold 50,000 spectators!!

Here was our cool tour guide! With a great accent, I was able to hear about 3/4 of the wonderful things he said about the Colosseum

You can see part of the reconstructed stage to the right. The left is where the stage would have been originally, but it was built with wood so has been worn out.

Soaking up the history

Dad looking great by the Colosseum

The bottom of the stage, which was about 2 levels. Straight ahead is the loser's exit off the stage

Dad told me to stop doing a cheesy face, so I did the "Sexy" look... You are welcome world...

Jesse Daniels, erected in 72 AD

I shall call this "The statue of Jamie Daniels, goddess of Teaching"

Hanging out on some of the pillars of the Colosseum

This one shall  be called "Jamie - Goddess of travel planning"

These Cyprus Trees were most likely planted around 81AD!

This is Rome, Friends!

An archeologist looking at Emperor Augustus's house.

Just working on his fitness...

The Emperors certainly picked a nice spot for their palaces... Clever guys

Arco di Tito

In the backdrop is Vittoriano

Part of the Roman Forum

A plaque for Caesar, along with the ruins

Dad, getting all artsy and stuff...

After walking around for ever, we came across a movie/tv set in Italian! The girl by the lamp post was the star, and she got to smack the guy in the suit like 4 times! Anyone in Italy, let us know if you see us in the background!

Dad concentrating on some ruins...

Put that away!!

This guy was awesome. He would stand perfectly still, then when anyone put a coin in his bucket he would get a lollipop out of his bag in a robotic movement.

Dad hanging out by the fountains at Piazza Navona

Half of the Panthenon. Won't show the other half because it was all under construction

The front of the Vittoriano again... Walking back home after a long day!

Today we are heading to Florence on a 4 hour long train! More to come soon!!
